Fourth Annual Symposium ~ July 8th, 2008
Duffield Hall
Cornell University
Ithaca, New York
10:00am - 5:00pm
Registration Deadline: May 20th, 2008
REGISTRATION IS CLOSEDThe Center for Vertebrate Genomics (CVG) was created to enhance research and education in vertebrate genetics and functional genomics at Cornell University. As part of that overall goal, the CVG aims to foster research interactions amongst vertebrate geneticists and other faculty. The monthly "Verge" meetings were started to increase awareness among CVG members of the different research programs that currently exist on campus, to share up-to-date information from conferences and the scientific literature, and to encourage interactions between CVG members. The annual symposium is an outgrowth of these monthly meetings, where we will learn more about the exciting research in vertebrate genomics that is being conducted outside of Cornell, through presentations from distinguished invited speakers, and within Cornell, through a poster session where graduate students and post-doctoral fellows of CVG labs can showcase their own research. The annual symposium is open to non-CVG members, including individuals from other institutions.
2008 Guest Speakers:
-
Dr. Susan Ackerman, Howard Hughes Medical Institute and The Jackson Laboratory
"Novel mechanisms of neurodegeneration revealed by forward genetics"
-
Dr. David Beier, Harvard Medical School
"Using mouse mutagenesis to study organogenesis, birth defects, and brain development"
-
Dr. Manolis Dermitzakis, Sanger Center, UK
"Population genetics and genomics of gene expression in humans and primates"
-
Dr. Kerstin Lindblad-Toh, Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT
"The power of canine disease gene mapping: lessons learnt"
-
Dr. Sarah E. Millar, University of Pennsylvania
"Wnt signals in the specification, regeneration and neogenesis of ectodermal appendages"
Poster Contest
A lunch-time poster session will highlight the work students (undergraduate and graduate) and post-docs. Presenting students and post-docs will be eligible for the poster contest. Prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions, with awards supporting the purchase of the winner's choice of scientific books, subscriptions or equipment.- All poster session winners will be invited to dine with the symposium speakers the evening of the symposium.
